Week 9 WTF Moments in the NFL

Our weekly WTF feature hones in on some of the outrageous, unbelievable and wacky stories from last week’s games. (It’s kind of like the internet version of “Football Follies”!)

Without further adieu, here’s what went on in Week 9 of the 2016 NFL season.

Ben Plays

So let’s start off by getting in the face of some of these media people who seem to have “sources” giving them their medical insights on Big Ben’s knee: WTF?

We had it correct here at SCU from day 1 – Ben’s would be back for Ravens 20 days after surgery on his knee. (Helps to actually be a medical professional instead of just play one on TV!)

Ben did WHAT?!

In keeping the this theme, okay Ben we know you are a great and fearless leader, but a rushing TD? I did not see a big “S” on your chest, or a cape on your back in this game.

WTF?

Let’s temper the heroics just a bit!

Riverdance

Now with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter of mostly terrible play for the first 3 quarters, the Steelers were never out of the game. Everyone knew, down 7 points, that an onside kick was coming.

What we didn’t know is that a side-step onside kick by Boswell was coming up.

Boswell successfully attempted this in college, but this was not the time for trickery; with the AFC North standing on the line and a 4th quarter surge, maybe the Steelers recover a regular attempt?

WTF?

See ya later

Leaving the Steelers game there were some funny WTF moments that makes me think players were just voicing their frustration of finally having Election Day here, and started throwing and hitting things.

KC TE Travis Kelce was not happy with an end zone flag, after a few went up, he threw his rag at a ref, and the ref then threw his hat, and then threw out the player!

EJECTED!

No call?

CB Richard Sherman got into the act for his egregious hit on the Bills kicker on MNF after the play was dead and no flag.

WTF?

He will have an envelope for fines this week.

Zebras

Last, let’s pick on the refs a bit. These are well paid employees that have years in this league, and are continuing to miss calls, even with coach’s challenges and replay.

The missed roughing the kicker call in the Seattle/Buffalo game, the wrong delay of a game calls, and then the game-changing missed holding and PI calls, there has to be someone holding them responsible?

I mean WTF?

If coaches or players publicly speak out they get fined.

So when will this get better?

Their bad calls could mean the difference in a coach having a job or not the following week based on wins and losses. It’s time to hold them accountable. They are NFL employees; no free pass.
