Bold Predictions: Steelers vs. Browns
I’m back with predictions, and I’m feeling pretty good, considering last week’s haul: I called for Ezekiel Elliott to be held under 125 rushing yards (done, albeit the receiving end sucked) Ben Roethlisberger to pass for over 350 (done) and 3-4 touchdowns (done) as well as Le’Veon Bell to break his scoreless streak, and the Steelers to get a strip sack (sorta kinda).
Oh yeah, I also predicted Antonio Brown would have a big day, and catch at least 10 passes.
With all that going nearly the way I had thought, I think I’m done for the year… nah, it’s too fun to try and make some bold predictions. So let’s see what damage Pittsburgh can do when they make the short trip to Cleveland.
Two receivers go over 100 yards
One of them will be Antonio Brown.
The other could be anyone: Bell, Eli Rogers, perhaps even Ladarius Green.
Actually, that Green idea isn’t so bad. He had 3 catches for 30 yards, while his fellow tight end Jesse James scooped up all 4 of his targets for 59 yards.
Rogers only got 42, but had over 100 against Baltimore: Cleveland’s secondary is just as bad, or worse, than the Ravens.
Yes, I know they have Joe Haden, but he’s never been able to stop AB, and that won’t change this Sunday.
Bell scores multiple touchdowns
I see no reason for Le’Veon to slowdown now, plus, I see no way that Cleveland can.
The Browns were lucky last year, as they didn’t face Bell in either of the two games Pittsburgh played against them. They won’t be so lucky this time, and I predict another huge game for Bell.
Maybe he goes over 100 receiving? Definitely over 150 all-purpose.
Oh and he might return a punt too.
Jordan Berry doesn’t punt
This is very bold. Too bold. I don’t even believe it, but I’ll go on a limb and say that Berry won’t have much work to do on Sunday. I’ll set this over/under at a more realistic 3.5, and stick with the under here.
Defense gets 5 sacks
The defense is going to be super P.O.’d from last game. I know they’re minus Cam, but they might be plus Bud. A fresh Dupree, an improving Anthony Chickillo, Jarvis Jones demoted for James Harrison: this sounds like a pass rush on paper.
The last time the Steelers played in Cleveland, they sacked the QB seven times.
Seems like a distant memory and an improbable possibility given the way things have gone this year, but the Browns offensive line is decimated. If Cody Kesslers plays, he’s an accurate QB who does well under pressure. He’s only thrown one pick so far this year (in 7 starts) however, he’s been sacked 15 times, and all Cleveland quarterbacks have combined for 30 sacks in 10 games.
That means if McCown gets the nod, he’s even more of a sitting duck than Kessler.
Tomlin goes for two
Did you cringe yet?
I have this gut feeling Tomlin goes for two on the very first score of the game. My bet is he wants to erase last week’s attempts from memory, and his chart probably tells him that a two point attempt is advantageous in this game as well.
Don’t be surprised if the Steelers go for it. Just saying!
Steelers break streaks
Here’s the obvious one: Pittsburgh ends their 4-game losing streak, and their pitiful display against sub .500 teams. Cleveland hasn’t won a single game this year, and some think, at home, this is their “Super Bowl”.
It’s happened before, but under less optimal circumstances. For the life of me, even if the defense plays the way they did against Dallas, the Browns are not the Cowboys offensively. Likewise, the Steelers offense just has to show up and do their job, and all will right itself in the world: Pittsburgh wins, and wins big.
Or so I hope.
