Bold Predictions: Steelers vs. Dolphins

We’re here Steelers Nation! It’s Wild Card weekend in the Burgh, and the Steelers are set to climb the “Stairway to Seven” by first crossing paths with the Miami Dolphins; a team they lost to in an extremely disappointing game back in Week 6.

This time, things should be different, and what better way to tell you that, than to look into my crystal ball, and take a peak into the future!

Okay, I can’t really do that, and sure, I missed on some of last week’s unpredictable game, but I’m going to swing for the fences this week anyway.

Here are Sunday’s “bold predictions” for the first round of the postseason.

Jay Ajayi held under 100 yards

I’m going to go out on a limb and say the additions of Bud Dupree, Sean Davis, and a healthy Ryan Shazier, will not allow Ajayi to run wild this weekend.

The aforementioned names were not a part (or large part) of the last encounter with the Fins. Vince Williams started, and played in place of Shazier, while Dupree was on IR, and Davis didn’t log a single defensive snap.

This means an improved Steelers defense… and…

“Moore” sacks

Dolphins backup quarterback, and Sunday’s starter, Matt Moore, has only been dropped once in four appearances, three of those starts.

His couterpart, Ryan Tannehill, was sacked 29 times over more than 12 games (with the 13th being a partial appearance, making way for Moore).

With Dupree’s AFC-leading 4.5 sacks over the final month of the season, and the Steelers all-time leading sack machine James Harrison in the lineup full-time, I don’t see how Moore escapes as often.

I’m going to mark “3” as my over/under for how many times Moore is rattled in this game.

Killer B’s

Put them all on the board: Ben throws at least 2 touchdowns, possibly 3, with Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell both scoring.

AB and Bell took over the next-to-last drive against the Ravens, and got Pittsburgh in the endzone following 4 plays between the duo.

With the Dolphins secondary reeling, the Steelers trio should be able to put up the numbers. Bell goes over 150 all-purpose, Brown has 5 catches for around a buck (100) and Ben has a 3-digit passer rating.

Pick Six

I’ve been waiting for the defense to score, and this could be the week. Both Artie Burns and William Gay have been close to getting interceptions by jumping routes in recent weeks. If Moore, who is without his starting center Mike Pouncey, gets pressured like I think he will, and Ajayi is contained, the Dolphins may look to stretch the Steelers secondary with a screen pass.

That could be a big mistake.

Steelers cover the spread and move on to Arrowhead

Of course I’m taking my team to win, but I’m also thinking they cover the 10 points they’re giving up on the Vegas line. The over/under is 47, and I’m not as confident this game sees a combined 47, but I do see the Steelers scoring 30+ and holding Miami to under 20.

That’s a formula for winning football, and heading to the next round of the playoffs, where they’d play the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, at Arrowhead Stadium.
