League passes Arizona’s petition to officially become Steelers West (April Fools)

Jarvis Jones isn’t the only former Steeler moving to the desert. In an unprecedented move, the league’s owners have voted for another relocation. The Pittsburgh football franchise will become what Cardinals fans have always wanted: the Arizona Steelers.

The news comes as no surprise to a Pittsburgh fanbase which was fed up with their existing team and leadership. For years fans have been calling for the firing of head coach Mike Tomlin, offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and most recently, defensive coordinator Keith Butler.

The most critical of these voices have been demanding a suitable replacement be drafted for Ben Roethlisberger, despite the quarterback being under contract through the 2019 season. Followers of the team have also criticized the actions of Le’Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant in recent years. It all came to a head in the postseason where Antonio Brown aired a live stream on Facebook from within the locker room. “I can’t believe he did that,” one fan said.

Another fan who we reached out for comment noted “The [stuff] really hit the fan when they gave those guys [Bell, Brown] those big contracts. This isn’t my grandfather’s Steelers anymore.”

Antonio Brown was the most surprised by the fan’s positive reaction to the Arizona relocation:

“It was just a Facebook Live video.”

When reached for comment, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner had this to say:

“I can’t say I’m surprised. [The Arizona Cardinals] were acquiring former Steelers players and coaches for years. I guess if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.”

Of the 32 member teams, only the Tennessee Titans voted against the move, stating “That was our idea!”

The current Steelers roster will begin the transition within the next week. The organization will move wholesale, taking the team and its history with them to the Phoenix area. Details on how the league will disperse the current Cardinals team is sparse at this time, but a representative with the league notified us that the Pittsburgh market will receive a “replacement team” for the 2017 season.

In return, the new franchise will cease to be known as the Steelers. While a new moniker has yet to be unveiled, we do know that fans of Pittsburgh football will get what they always wanted, as Bruce Arians has been named the head coach of the new Pittsburgh franchise.
