David DeCastro first Steeler named to NFL Top 100 list
On Monday night the NFL began revealing it’s new annual tradition of naming the Top 100 players in the league. Each week, ten players on the list are announced, starting with the bottom of the list, until every name on the way to the top player is made public.
The list is supposedly voted on by NFL players and personnel, though many players have denied voting or being offered to vote in the competition.
Regardless, it’s still considered an honor to have your name brought up as the “best of the best” in the league. Therefore we will highlight each of the Pittsburgh Steelers entries into the NFL’s list.
This week Steelers guard David DeCastro was named to the list. DeCastro, a first-round draft selection in 2012 by the Steelers, was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl in 2016, after being part of a Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line that nearly set a franchise mark for sacks allowed in a season.
DeCastro has also been an ironman for the Steelers, missing all but two offensive snaps this season (leaving the field for rulebook-mandated “one play” reasons). That’s good for second among all linemen since Alejandro Villanueva never left the field at all! In fact, the offensive lineman has only missed a single game in the last four seasons.
His placement on this list is, while at number 97, is a great acknowledgement considering that many skill positions get the glory over the guts of the men in the trenches.
