After starting five games early in the 2016 season, Arthur Moats saw his playing time diminish when fellow outside linebacker Bud Dupree returned from injured reserve. But early in the year, he was still a contributor, generating 3.5 sacks and batting down three passes.

Moats enters an intriguing contract year where the Steelers drafted not one, but two outside linebackers to compete with the current crop of players: first round pick T.J. Watt out of Wisconsin and seventh round pick Keion Adams out of Western Michigan. They join Dupree, the ageless James Harrison, and veteran Anthony Chickillo to compete with Moats for playing time.

The 2016 Steelers Man of the Year should still serve a similar backup/relief role at the position but could see fewer snaps should the team be able to keep a preseason promise they’ve made the last two years to ditch the outside linebacker rotation.
