Plays of the Year: Cam Heyward cannot be denied
Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the tops runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between for the Steelers 2017 season.
Cameron Heyward was the best-kept secret of the Steelers defense for most of the 2017 season. The defensive captain entered last season after missing nine games and being placed on IR in 2016.
Heyward returned with a vengeance last season, leading the Steelers in sacks through this Week 11 Thursday Night Football contest against the visiting Tennesee Titans.
With the Steelers up nine points midway through the third quarter, the defense was backed up to their own 11-yard line and facing a 3rd-and-4, Heyward wasn’t going to be denied from making a big play.
The defensive end rumbles forward, overpowering his one-on-one matchup and grabbing ahold of Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota… and not letting go!
The sack was one of Heyward’s two sacks in the game. As you can see, Heyward was determined and could not be stopped from his goal of sacking Mariota.
The impact in the game was also big: the play would go down as a loss of 15 yards and force the Titans to kick a field goal.
It would be the last time Tennessee would score in the game.
