Plays of the Year: Big Ben finds JuJu deep for game-winning TD over Colts
Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2020 season.
Heading into Week 16 of the 2020 season, it seemed as though the Pittsburgh Steelers would never clinch the AFC North division title. The Steelers, who started the season 11-0, had dropped three consecutive games including a flub in the previous loss: a Monday night disaster in Cincinnati.
They would host the Indianapolis Colts on this Sunday, a team led by Philip Rivers and hungry to secure their own playoff destiny.
Indy looked well on their way in doing so, jumping out to a 24-7 advantage before the Steelers started to wake up late in the third quarter. Two Ben Roethlisberger touchdown passes narrowed the game to within three points as the Steelers sought to take the lead midway through the 4th quarter.
Ben Roethlisberger would lead the Steelers to a third-straight scoring drive, which ended in one of his most clutch throws of the past decade.
With 7:43 left in the game, on 1st-and-10 driving in Colts territory, Pittsburgh lined up in a three-receiver set. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster lined up in the slot as Big Ben snaps the ball. JuJu darts straight up the middle of the entire defense as Roethlisberger displays his signature pump-fake and freezes one of the Colts safeties.
Ben then throws a beautiful dime right into Juju’s hands for the clutch 25-yard score.
The touchdown would seal the deal as the Steelers would go on to win by a margin of 27-24, as well as clinch the AFC North division title for the first time since 2017.
