Plays of the Year: Bud Dupree continues strip-sack streak against Drew Lock

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2020 season.

The Steelers opened their home slate of games in Week 2 with no fans inside Heinz Field, as they hosted the Denver Broncos. After both the Broncos and Steelers offenses took the field and left on three-and-outs, Pittsburgh’s defense – dialed up yet again in Week Two – allowed just five plays to take place before creating a turnover.

The Broncos opened up their second offensive series with three Melvin Gordon rushes for six, 17, and 16 yards respectively. Quarterback Drew Lock attempted a pass deep left to Tim Patrick that fell incomplete due to solid coverage by Steven Nelson.

On second down, Lock handed the ball off to Royce Freeman for a three-yard gain. On the very next play, the Steelers defense threw heavy pressure right at Lock and took advantage.

Lock took the snap from the shotgun and was pressured by T.J. Watt and Stephon Tuitt from the left side of the line, with Watt completely beating the right tackle. With Cameron Heyward and Devin Bush also applying pressure, Bud Dupree was set free to shoot in and create a strip as he brought Lock to the turf. Mike Hilton was, subsequently, the beneficiary of the loose ball.

Lock left the game after the play to be evaluated, remaining in the tent on the sideline through the next Steelers possession before heading to the locker room. Jeff Driskel took over at quarterback for the Broncos for the remainder of the game.

Dupree showed up big for the Steelers defense and was a major factor in their two-win opening of the 2020 regular season, with a final score of the Steelers 26, Broncos 21.
