Plays of the Year: Najee Harris finally finds the endzone with game-winning TD

Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 season.

It was a long time coming, but in Week 7 of the 2023 NFL regular season at SoFi Stadium, against the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris finally got his first rushing touchdown of the year. Harris and Jaylen Warren were asked to be a committee and both took advantage of the opportunities they were given on the road against the Rams.

The touchdown run by Harris capped an outstanding offensive series for the Steelers and gave Pittsburgh the lead, and the final touchdown needed to secure a victory.

At the 12:36 mark in the fourth quarter, Kenny Pickett started the drive at the Pittsburgh 20-yard line with a quick pass to George Pickens. Pickens’ over-excitement cost him when the officials called him for taunting. That forced the Steelers into a 1st & 10 at their 23 yard-line, essentially erasing the nice gain.

Pickett handed the ball off to Harris and Warren before he converted the third-and-one with a QB keeper. With a new set of downs, Pickett went deep for Pickens for a 21-yard gain. He then mixed passes to Diontae Johnson and Connor Heyward in with runs by Harris before Harris was able to punch into the end zone from the Rams’ 3-yard line for a touchdown.

Ten plays, 80 yards, no incompletions for Pickett. On the series, Harris gained 21 yards and his first rushing touchdown of the season. On the day, Harris carried the ball 53 yards on 14 plays.

It may not sound stellar, but every inch earned was a fight against a tough Rams defensive front as the Steelers improved to 4-2 with a 24-17 victory.
