Watch: Herbig speed rush seals Trubisky’s fate
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense got off to a hot start in their second preseason game of the 2024 NFL year against the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium.
Minus T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, and Alex Highsmith – who aren’t under evaluation – Nick Herbig stepped up big in the edge rusher role on two different series’.
In the first offensive series for the Bills, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was introduced and took the field to the boos of Steelers fans who’re unlikely to forget his time in Pittsburgh. On 3rd & 2 from the Buffalo 36, Trubisky took the snap from shotgun. Herbig, lined up at the ROLB spot, crossed behind Keeanu Benton at defensive end to shoot a wide open gap. Trubisky, his fate sealed, had nowhere to go and the play went for a loss of ten yards.

The Bills were forced to punt the ball back to the Steelers.
On the very next offensive series for Buffalo, Herbig and Benton would again end up in the offensive backfield. On 1st & 10 at the Buffalo 43, Trubisky once again took the snap from shotgun and was swarmed as Herbig got around his ankles to prevent the escape as Benton finished off the sack. Officially, they’d both earned 0.5 sacks for the play.
