Watch: Patterson hits big hole for TD run

In the final game of preseason football for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, they were on the road against the Detroit Lions. The Steelers, who received the ball first, went out on their opening offensive series and put the first points on the scoreboard, something Steelers Nation has been waiting to see.

Russell Wilson started the game at quarterback working with what appears will be the first-team offense headed into the 2024 NFL regular season.

On 1st & 10 at their own 40, Najee Harris was given the ball and rushed for five hard-fought yards. Wilson then threw a pass to George Pickens that went for a loss after replay showed that, when the defender made initial contact, Pickens’ forearm had touched the ground even though it initially looked like he’s been able to regain his balance for a positive play. Not to be deterred, Wilson returned to Pickens along the left sideline on the very next play for a 32 yard gain and first down.

Although running back Cordarrelle Patterson was stuffed in a rush to the right end, redemption came on 2nd & 12 at the Detroit 31.

The offensive line got a good jump on the snap and created a big hole between the left guard and tackle gap that Patterson hit hard, getting past the first and second line of defense. With defenders chasing, Patterson was able easily run the ball into the end zone for the score.

With a successful PAT by Chris Boswell, the Steelers made a statement by coming out hot on offense.

When Wilson was replaced by Fields on the next offensive series, the Steelers were, again, able to drive and score, putting the Lions in an early hole.
