Martavis Bryant has been benched for this weeks’ Steelers game
Fans have been clamoring for Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin to finally discipline Martavis Bryant for his social media antics, which have included trash-talking JuJu Smith-Schuster and saying he wants traded. Many are sick of his poor attitude and it appears Tomlin has finally brought down the hammer of justice!

Yes, Martavis Bryant has been benched and will not be seeing the field versus the Detroit Lions.
Bryant didn’t have many words on the subject, but the reason for this action shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody.

As mentioned earlier, Bryant has caused a lot of drama through his social media habits. What started as simple trade rumors snowballed into him calling out his own teammates and airing his dirty laundry out for all of the internet to see.
While Bryant’s usage didn’t appear to change last week following the reports of his unhappiness, it’s clear that he crossed the line this week.
While the team will miss Bryant’s size and speed on the field, the Steelers firmly believe in the mantra “the standard is the standard” and will call on the next man up: Justin Hunter. It appears that he will be taking over Bryant’s role on offense this week.
With Justin Hunter taking Martavis Bryant’s reps, perhaps the #Steelers are waiting to see how Bryant responds. As of now, he’ll be inactive

Hunter profiles similarly to Bryant. He stands tall at 6’4 and has blazing 4.44 speed. He will likely play the same role of a deep threat that Bryant has primarily been used for this season.
It is to be determined how Bryant will respond to being benched. Ideally he responds positively and uses it as motivation to fix his attitude and practice harder. However, it’s entirely possible that Bryant reacts negatively and only worsens his standing with the team.
It is a situation worth monitoring, but the main focus for this team should be on winning, not player drama. That is the message Tomlin is sending here. No single player is more important than the entire team, and certainly no player should be complaining about their usage when the team is on a winning streak.
Hopefully Martavis Bryant receives that message and can put all of this drama behind him.
