Strengths
A built player who was originally recruited to play linebacker. Shows very good accuracy at times and can make tough throws. Has good mobility in the pocket and can extend plays if he has too. Doesn’t force plays too much and can make safeties bite with his eyes.
Shows advanced pre-snap adjustments which is a great tool for NFL Success. Trust his arm a lot, sometimes too much. Strong in the pocket and won’t get taken down without a fight. Shows great leadership and has the “clutch” factor that not everyone has.
Weaknesses
Had ball security issues with both interceptions and fumbles. Doesn’t have a super strong arm but makes up for it with accuracy. Has a funky throwing motion where he winds up like Phillip Rivers. Made some bad decisions and at times looked flustered. Needs to shorten throwing motion to cut down on turnovers.
NFL Team Fits
Browns, Giants, Broncos, Jets, Cardinals, Chargers, Bills, Redskins
Summary
Sam Darnold is arguably one of if not the best quarterbacks in the draft. He has great size and intangibles, and has franchise quarterback talent. Teams need to be patient but he has a tremendous upside and is worthy of a top five pick.
