Watch: Sean Davis picks off deep Taysom Hill pass attempt

Steel City Underground will pick a play of the game from each side of the ball each week of the Steelers 2018 season. Stay tuned as we hand select the very best from the black and gold!

The Steelers opted to receive the kickoff to open the game on Sunday afternoon against the Saints in New Orleans, hoping to get off to a hot start. They got one nice play off between Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster, but were forced to punt. Jordan Berry booted the ball 57 yards into the end zone.

That changed the mood and made it look like things might get off to a slower burn for Pittsburgh than they’d drawn up until Saints head coach Sean Payton decided to get cute with his play-calling and had Taysom Hill line up in place of Drew Brees. Hill lofted the ball deep in an attempt to hit Ted Ginn, but Sean Davis had his eyes – and hands – all over the ball in the end zone.

Grabbing the ball, Davis was able to get up clean, untouched by a defender, and run the ball out for a 27-yard return before he was horse-collared by Josh Hill. The interception, return and penalty gave the Steelers the ball at their own 40-yard line and set up a Chris Boswell field goal to put the Steelers on the scoreboard first, 3-0.
