Breaking down the “Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” from the Steelers’ win over the Browns
Following every Pittsburgh Steelers game, Travis Newton takes a no-holds-barred, unabashed look at what went well, not so good and just plain ugly. Here is this week’s edition of the “Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”
The Good
Fitzpatrick Pick Six
Browns Ball: 1st Quarter 9:05 – 3rd-and-3 CLV 28
The ball hawk, Minkah Fitzpatrick, got back to his playmaking ways early in the first quarter when he picked off Baker Mayfield and took it to the house.
Mayfield had his eyes locked on the deep slant route, looking for Harrison Bryant, with the savvy safety reading it from the start. Fitzpatrick crept down into the play, diagnosing the slant and jumped on the pass right when it left the fingertips of Mayfield. Following the interception, it was green grass and high tides for Fitzpatrick as he went 33 yards untouched into the end zone for the Steelers’ first touchdown of the game. A disheartening trend continued for the Browns; they are now 0-3 in games when Mayfield throws a pick six.

The Bad
Rashard Higgins Touchdown Reception
Browns Ball: 2nd Quarter 1:01 – 2nd-and-10 PIT 13
The proven Steelers defense didn’t give up much to the Browns in their Sunday afternoon matchup, but there was one breakdown late in the second quarter that resulted in a touchdown for Cleveland.
Mayfield had plenty of time in the pocket on the second down play as he sat back and scanned the Steelers defense. In the end, Mayfield found Rashard Higgins wide open in the back right corner of the end zone. The coverage bust led to the first and only score on the day for the Browns offense.
The Ugly
Devin Bush Injury
Browns Ball: 2nd Quarter 2:32 – 1st-and-10 PIT 23
Although the Steelers defense showed out with one of their top performances of the season, it did not come without a health concern when their young, star linebacker Devin Bush went down with a knee injury. Bush, who had played every defensive snap for the Steelers this season, dropped back into pass coverage and planted awkwardly on his left leg while trying to defend the pass. It was ruled later that Bush had suffered a torn ACL, which will require season-ending surgery.
