Watch: James Washington’s 50-yard TD is a lone bright spot in a dark night for the Steelers

Well, it was only a matter of time… and time ran out for Pittsburgh.

The Steelers would suffer their first loss of the 2020 season to the Washington Football Team 23-17 at home.

I am at a loss for words for what I just watched. I know some teams have their off days, but that was honestly one of the most embarrassing games I have ever watched the Steelers play in recent history.

When it seemed like the Steelers’ offense left their intensity and hands on the bus, one man made a good play today on the offense. James Washington gave us another example of why he deserves more activity in the offense with the team going forward. Now let’s get to the offensive play of the game.

Steelers are at midfield in the second quarter with 4:03 on the clock. Ben Roethlisberger is in the gun with Washington alone to the left and the rest of the receivers to the right. Ben then dumps the ball off to Washington on a quick hitch route. As soon as he catches the pass, he makes the man miss and immediately takes off down the sideline, outrunning the second defender for a 50-yard score.

While this play was another home-run touchdown for the young receiver, it is masked by the gut-wrenching feeling many of us feel tonight.

Something needs to change. I usually don’t call for someone’s job, but Pittsburgh has a problem with their OC. Randy Fichtner seems to be handicapping this offense with either the personnel choices, game time management, or just a lack of situational awareness. Also, it seems like Juju’s bike, all of the receiver’s hand were stolen or just missing tonight. The lack of energy, preparation, or both showed on the field in many aspects. Now granted: only four days between games is a factor but all season long we have seen these problems.

They needed this tonight. Now we saw a grim reality this team faces. If they truly want to win the super bowl this year, they need to prove that they can run the offense the way it should be: consistent.

It was a tough game, but the season is far from over. Now let us see how they bounce back next week. That will tell the story about the mental toughness of this team. They already have had a very historic season in 2020. Now they need to stay strong as best as they can.
