Plays of the Year: Chris Boswell kicks the longest field goal in Heinz Field history
Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits and everything else in-between from the Pittsburgh Steelers 2021 season.
Trailing 23-14 in their Week 2 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Steelers were looking for some quick points to close the gap in the contest.
Unfortunately, those points didn’t come in the form of a trip to the redzone and Pittsburgh was faced with a dubious task on 4th-and-10 from the Raiders 38-yard line: go for the first down, or attempt the longest field goal in Heinz Field history.
Facing the “closed end” of the stadium, Mike Tomlin sent his field goal unit out to attempt what had been impossible to convert by so many placekickers before – from any team!
However, this isn’t any kicker, as Chris Boswell just makes it over the crossbar and through the uprights.
Boswell’s successful attempt got the Steelers to within six points, but they would prove to be the final ones for Pittsburgh as they dropped their first loss of the 2021 regular season to the Raiders by a final score of 26-17.
