The Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders went head to head in Week 10 of the 2024 NFL regular season in a battle between two division leaders. The game was possibly the most outrightly competitive game for both teams who are in high contention for postseason play despite it being the beginning of the second half of the season.

Pittsburgh earned the 28-27 win through hard-nosed, fight through adversity play. No one could have predicted, however, that one play would be the major difference-maker it was.

Down 21-27, the Steelers offense was given the ball back with 5:46 left on the game clock. Russell Wilson and the offense stayed balanced between run and pass leading up to 3rd & 9 at the Washington 32.

From the shotgun, Wilson took the snap and the Commanders sent heavy pressure. Wilson stepped back and heaved the ball towards the left side of the end zone. Due to an injury suffered by Calvin Austin, recently acquired veteran receiver Mike Williams was on the route. Wilson’s pass was placed perfectly and fell into Williams’ arms for his first touchdown in the black and gold.

The Steelers defense had to make one more stand to seal the win. They forced a turnover on downs, something other teams that have faced the Commanders struggled to achieve.

Pittsburgh held onto their top spot in the AFC North as a result, and begin divisional play in Week 11.
